Nicola Drake is an oil painter who currently lives and works in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. She is self-taught. Being an artist is a second career for her having spent most of her adult life as an Emergency Physician. She has always painted, drawn and ‘made’ throughout her life and she has only recently made the leap to art as a career.
She has trained herself rigorously in observational painting and uses this skill to produce beautifully detailed paintings. While portraiture of both people and animals figures strongly in her portfolio, her passion is for still life where she is inspired by the play of light. She revels in the challenge of representing light on reflective or transparent surfaces. (‘I love shiny things!”) It is more than likely that she is inhabited by the soul of a magpie.
